Passing It Forward Through Bookmarks

2017 – a whole new year that brings us a new President. I won’t go all politics on here since it’s a book blog which is to bring joy and happy with books that allow us to escape today’s society.

However after this past election cycle which was filled with so much negativity it’s time that society receives something positive because it seems that lately the news is filled with something mocking another, deaths, sicknesses, and so much more negativity.

My mom and I determined that we wanted to pay it forward to those in our community. As a reader I use tons of bookmarks both store bought ones and ones that I make.

We decided that we would make several bookmarks and anonymously pass out bookmarks at our local Starbucks.

We developed a set up where we would make the bookmarks and place them inside a bucket with a sign that reads “free bookmarks, please take one or two”

The materials that I used for the bookmarks are:

Magazines – with the magazines I flip through each one to find pages that I could use and turn into a bookmark. This might be anything from a colored background to recipes to ads. Anything that can be used I use.

Bookmark shelves -These I buy on Amazon in a package of 200.

Bookmark Measure – To measure out the right size of the bookmark I use a box ribbon that is the right width and which I measured to the right length.

We have made over 400 bookmarks – I never counted for a offical total but I know it was somewhere near there.

Since we have started passing the bookmarks out it’s been a joy watching people look through them to find the right one for them.

One young girl could not pick just two therefore I told her that she could take a couple. After I told her it was I who made them she told me “my faith in humanity has been fixed.” Others have told me that having a book mark makes them want to find a book to read.

A free bookmark is something simple but in the end can bring a smile to ones face.

2017 – a new whole year

Happy New Year to all!

2017 is hopefully going to bring a lot of positive aspects. However I plan on focusing on posting new posts as much as possible for the books I read. Along with reviews of movies and TV shows that are based on books which I have read.

My goal for 2017 is 300 books which I have already read  6 of.

Owlcrate – August – Box Review

Another month in 2016 has come and gone. But in the month another Owlcrate box has also arrived.

Each month the owners at Owlcrate surprise me and I just love everything they place inside the box! And that was shown with the August month. I just LOVED it all.

Book: P.S. I Like You by Kasie West

Also include was a signed bookplate, a letter from Kasie, and a set of colored pencils with the book title on the box.

Other goodies:

Decomposition Book – This adorable book has made it’s way into my purse to allow me to jot down books to read along with any quotes I hear that I like. This was created by Michael Roger.

Harry Potter items – The box had two adorable Harry Potter items. The first item was button which was created by Taryn Draws

The second item was a stunning print of the Golden Tri which was designed by the amazing and talented Susanna Draws. I have already checked out her Etsy and been debating on a few prints to buy. All are so adorable.

Monthly Button – Owlcrate has decided on starting a monthly button item. Each month each box will have a button inside. This month’s button is the cute little raptor which is the chapter raptor. This was created by James Maxwell who also creates the monthly postcards. Which are too cute.

Owlcrate original Necklace – Owlcrate created a necklace for the box which was based off Eleanor and Park. It’s a necklace that I love.

Adult Coloring Book – Who does not love to just sit down, grab some colored pencils or markers and relax with a little coloring? I know I do. Therefore I love the coloring book that was created by Blue Star Coloring for this months Owlcrate. The details found within the coloring book are amazing and I have already colored one page and working on turning it into a bookmark.

Overall – I really loved this box. I have already put most of the items to use and working on a place for the buttons in my room. Each box just is amazing and a fun experience for a booknerd.

September sneak peek: The theme for September was Darkness with a item designed after Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children. I have already gotten the box and OMG! It’s just another great box. Will post it soon.

Beauty and the Beast 2017 movie

Out of all the Disney Princess’s I feel most connected to Belle. Why? Easy. She is a reader and finds reading to be enjoyable and not boring. Therefore I’m extremely excited for the movie to come out in 2017.

As for the casting I have to say that I’m very happy with each actor they placed in each role. At the moment we have only gotten a few teaser trailers –

Beauty and the Beast teaser trailer #1

Cast –

Emma Watson (Harry Potter, Perks of Being a Wallflower) as Belle

Dan Stevens (Downtown Abbey, Night as the Museum) as the Beast

Luke Evans (Fast and Furious, The Hobbit) as Gaston

Ewan McGregor (Moulin Rouge!, Fargo) as Lumiere

Ian McKellen (Lord of the Rings, Mr. Holmes) as Cogsworth

Waiting for photos of Plumette, Mrs. Potts, Cadenza, Le Fou, and so many more. We can only hope that we have given those photos soon!

The movie will appear at theaters on March 17th, 2017!

Now I’m off to get some reading done.
